CULTIVATING CALM

The Joy of Hugging

Fight-or-flight trumps joy and happiness every time!
- Donna Eden

Background. There is a powerful and radiant energy system in the body that has been known for millennia in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It's called "strange flows" in TCM. According to medical intuitive and master healer, Donna Eden, "[T]he strange flows mobilize your 'inner mom'." (1999, p. 245). These "radiant circuits" activate instant connections among the body's many energy systems. They create an inner radiance visible to those like Donna who see our bio-field energies in action, and an outer joy evident to those close to us.

Why is hugging important…?
Hugging stimulates the strange flows, activating the body's capacity for joy!
Listen to Thich Nhat Hanh, Vietnamese Buddhist monk and spiritual leader, on this subject:

"Hugging is a beautiful Western custom, and we from the East would like to contribute the practice of conscious breathing to it. When you hold a child in your arms, or hug your mother, or your husband, or your friend, if you breathe in and out three times, your happiness will be multiplied at least tenfold." (1991, p. 85)
